The Policy and Planning Council of MERC commissioned the Understanding Teacher Morale study in the Fall of 2014 to address concerns about teacher job satisfaction and morale in the region. This study involved a multi-case study of 44 teachers across three purposefully selected schools. The findings reveal that teacher morale is influenced by the interaction between an individual’s vision of teaching and the qualities of the school’s professional culture The findings have important implications for school leadership, as well as division and state policy makers. The report concludes with a set of practical recommendations.
