Culturally Relevant Pedagogy and Black Boys in Urban Education Settings

This presentation will address the negative educational outcomes of Black boys in urban settings through a culturally relevant pedagogy theoretical framework. The focus of the current project is to demonstrate effective teaching practices that affirm Black boys cultural identity, support academic success, and develop perspectives that challenge systemic and structural inequities perpetuated by schools.  

Massive Resilience: A Culturally Responsive Trauma Informed Mindfulness Program for Inner-City High School Students.

This presentation will examine the processes and challenges of designing and implementing a culturally responsive, evidence-based yoga and mindfulness program for 60 freshmen attending a racially and economically segregated urban high school, where the consequences of trauma affect classroom behavior and academic achievement.
