Investigating the Retention of Noyce Scholars through Induction Meetings

The VCU Noyce Initiative, an integrated STEM collaborative project, is beginning its tenth year and uses an induction program to support our scholars after graduation by providing a platform for sharing instructional and school-related issues. This presentation will share the protocols used and insights drawn from these meetings.  

Creating Confident Mathematics Problem Solvers

This presentation seeks to determine the impact of teaching growth mindset principles along with incorporating both collaborative and independent problem solving skills in high school mathematics.  It is designed to measure how this approach to teaching math affects students’  confidence level, resiliency, and problem solving ability.   

Building Mathematical Communities (Partnership between Institutions of Higher Learning & K-12 Educators)

This presentation will discuss implications and lessons learned from the pilot year of the “Math Teachers Circle,” developed as collaborative partnership between Virginia State University, the Department of Mathematics and Economics at VSU, and secondary math teachers from four surrounding school divisions.
