Sept. 3, 2026

TUESDAY OCTOBER 20TH, 2026 3:30-5:00
MERC is in the middle of a two year regional study on the Virginia Literacy Act, which includes implications for literacy professional development. In this free Zoom seminar, we will share key findings from recent literature and hear from division and state leaders on what evidence-based literacy professional development looks like locally and across the Commonwealth. The MERC team will also share a dashboard, inviting attendees to interact with local survey data and consider ways to apply it to their everyday work.
Session facilitators include:
Candace Bechtold, PhD - Adjunct Professor, Virginia Commonwealth University
Meleah Ellison, EdD - Researcher, Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium
Liz Kingdom - Coordinator of Early Literacy and Gifted Education, Goochland County Public Schools
